2003 – 2007 – Barbara is producing a body of work that incorporates a variety of her art making over the last eighteen years: landscape, figurative, still life, newspaper and textual paintings. Titled Birthmarks/Landmarks, an exhibition of this work will be shown in 2008. Two major paintings (portraits), 6’ x 5’, will face each other (on opposite walls) in a large gallery connected by one long row of smaller newspaper paintings (7” x 5” x 6” x 4”) on all four walls. These small paintings are works in progress and will reflect the cultural, political and social events in Canada and around the world during the 20th century. This project began with an Individual Creation Grant from The Department of Tourism and Culture (Nova Scotia) – January 15, 2003 Below are a few of the small newspaper paintings.
