Andrea Johnson paints landscape, still-life and garden motifs in watercolour. She holds a BFA from NSCAD and an MA in Economics from Queen’s. She teaches adult and children’s watercolour and drawing classes for Halifax Recreation and provides private watercolour instruction to several students.
For the past decade her work has centered on an intensive exploration of beauty as embodied in particular flowers and in the arrays of local garden sites and also in the multiplying possibilities for representation and expression offered by watercolour. Garden motifs are also central to a suite of colour photographs from which she makes limited edition hand-produced cards.
In October 2006, her watercolour “Birch Tree, York Redoubt” received honourable mention in the CSPWC associate member’s show. Since 2006 she has had an open studio during the annual Go North tour of north end Halifax studios and galleries. Her work is held by a number of private collectors.
