| Lasisi Sikiru / Visiting Artist Born in Ibadan, Oyo State Nigeria Living in Ogidi Ijumu Local Government area, Kogi State, Nigeria Born on July 21, 1976 Lasisi was raised by a divorced father who despite limited resources encouraged his child's early creative instincts. His passion for art was also fostered in traditional Primary and Grammar Schools where a hobby of drawing and painting was encouraged. In his late teens he began earning a living selling his art work. In 1995, his relative and renowned international artist, Chief Z.O. Oloruntoba, invited Lasisi to train under his guidance at the Kings Arts Theatre and Gallery. He acquired new techniques and in 1999 became an independent artist. Since then he has developed into an innovative interpreter of African culture using a variety of materials including watercolours, charcoal, pastels, batik, tapestry, pen and ink, oils and acrylics. Dreams play an important role in Lasisi's paintings especially those of an abstract nature. Some of these works will be available for viewing on this site in the coming months. Lasisi is a member of the Nigerian Society of Art. |
